Baraque School of Sewing was started by Barbara Aquilina in 1997, to teach people how to sew. “Sewing your own clothes is one thing but choosing the correct colour and style is another”
With this in mind Barbara did an Image Consultants course with the Australian Image Company in 1999 and in 2001 studied basic bodice fit, shirt, skirt, and pant fit with Palmer Pletsch Australia. A tailoring course at Vogue was undertaken and Barbara felt she was well equipped to give her students the best possible direction. As Barbara is a trained counsellor she also has the ability to listen to her clients and to help them find solutions to their particular needs.
The name of the business is now known as Baraque School of Sewing and Style, under this banner Barbara conducts Colour and Style Consultations for women and men; gives seminars on Image, Wardrobe Organization, How to Look 10 years Younger Without Plastic Surgery and Presentation for Job Interviews.
The Palmer Pletsch Pattern Fit was integrated into Barbara’s already popular sewing classes, but as fit is such an important part of sewing, Barbara decided to concentrate on this aspect and now runs fit workshops in place of the sewing classes.
In 2002 Baraque took over the manufacture of the foldaway cardboard cutting tables from Simplicity, and now sells them to Australia , New Zealand and the United kingdom. Please click on table opposite to find out more about the Baraque Foldaway Cutting Table.
All books relevant to courses and workshops are available for sale from Baraque.
